Obercreek Farm is excited to announce an opening for a full time/full season field crew member. You will have the the opportunity to learn the inner workings of our diverse agriculture business will contributing your fullest.

In our 4th year of production, we are a group of young farmers with a passion for hard work that brings health and sustainability to our community, ourselves, and our soil. We focus on providing high quality produce to our community while providing our farmers a fair and sustainable wage. We are dedicated to preserving the natural integrity of our land by nurturing a biologically diverse environment. We want to foster a place where the community can come together to teach, learn, experience, and celebrate life in the Hudson Valley.

Obercreek Farm is a Certified Organic farm located in the hamlet of Hughsonville in the Town of Wappinger, NY and has been in production since 2013.  We grow diversified vegetables for our 200 Member CSA, wholesale accounts in the Hudson Valley and New York City, Farmer's Markets, and for our onsite Farm Stand. We grow outside during the season and in four passive solar greenhouses year round and when weather turns too cold to grow food in the field we keep the farm alive by growing specialty baby greens in the solar greenhouses. All of our certified organic produce and herbs are on a total of 24 acres in rotation throughout the main growing season. In addition to the vegetable production, Obercreek has a half-acre hop yard and will be establishing a quarter acre perennial herb garden.

Full Time/Full Season Field Crew Member Job Description & Expectations

As a full time, full season field crew member you will experience many aspects of our commercial produce and CSA farm. Daily hours for the majority of the season are 7am to 5:00pm Mon-Fri with an hour for lunch, allowing for flexibility due to weather and time of year. Your 10 hour days will include but are not limited dozens of other tasks over the course of a full season on a farm.  Below are an example of activities you will be participating in.  

  • Food Safety and Tractor Safety Training

  • Field work: harvesting, transplanting, weeding, pruning, trellising, thinning, managing irrigation systems, pest control, and other tasks

  • Tractor work: tillage, bed prep, transplanting, cultivation, harvesting, compost turning etc

  • Pack-out operations: washing and sorting harvested crops, quality control, and packing/storage requirements of all crops

  • Greenhouse operations: seeding, potting-up, irrigation, pest control, fertility, trellising, as well as other tasks

  • Marketing and Sales operations: working with the CSA, Farmers market, and wholesale accounts

  • Weekly Rotating Chores: General Farm Cleanup, flat washing, garbage, restocking supplies, etc.

NECESSARY SKILLS

Strong work ethic and endurance for hard physical work, willing to work hard above and beyond when required

  • Sense of humor, positive attitude and enthusiasm

  • Ability to balance speed and efficiency while maintaining Obercreek’s standard of quality

  • Physically fit- must be able to lift 40-50 lbs repeatedly and easily, and work physically all day in all sorts of weather doing repetitive tasks

  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to communicate honestly and accept feedback

  • Must have an Valid US Driver's License.

Previous farming experience is a plus, but not required for field crew positions. Hourly pay starts at $10/hour and may increase based on performance and length of stay.

JOB DESCRIPTION for Part Time/Full Season Farmers Market Team Member

Obercreek Farm is looking for a Farmers Market Team member to assist with our new market in Brooklyn on Wednesdays at Bartel Pritchard Square on the edge of Prospect Park. The Market runs from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. We are primarily interested in finding candidates based in the Hudson Valley who would assist with packing our sprinter van before market, helping at the market stand in Brooklyn, and then returning to the farm in the evening. 

However, we will also consider applicants based in Brooklyn who would assist at the farmers market and packing the van after the market.
 

The Farmers Market Team Member will assist with all of the following tasks:

*packing and driving the market vehicle safely

*setting up an attractive farmers market table at each market

*taking down the market booth at the end of the day

*building displays

*creating attractive signage

*ringing up customer purchases accurately

*restocking the market booth and keeping an attractive display up at all times

*communicating with customers about seasonal availability of our vegetables and answering questions about different vegetable varieties

*educating customers about our vegetables and our growing practices

*keeping the market vehicle clean and organized

*making suggestions to customers about how to cook specific types of vegetables

Schedule:

*We are looking for someone who is willing to work one very long day per week driving down to Brooklyn early in the morning, working the market there, and then coming back to Obercreek.

*if full-time employment desired, additional work days on the farm are a possibility especially from June-September when our workload increases.

Qualifications:

*Excellent customer service skills and a comfort level interacting with customers
*An interest in learning about our farm and seasonal vegetable production in the Hudson Valley and a willingness to share your knowledge with customers at the farmers market

*Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly

*Good basic math skills

*Valid Driver's license and clean driving record

*Ability to take direction and work independently

*Experience setting up a farmer's market stand a plus

*You must provide your own transportation to the farm and / or the farmers market at Bartel Pritchard Square

The Customer Outreach and Media Member will administer the company’s social media marketing and advertising. Administration includes but is not limited to:

  • Deliberate planning and goal setting
  • Development of brand awareness and online reputation
  • SEO (search engine optimization) and generation of inbound traffic

  • Taking pictures and video for campaigns and media accounts

Obercreek Farm is seeking highly motivated, creative individual with experience and a passion for connecting with current and future customers. That passion comes through as he/she engages with customers on a daily basis, with the ultimate goal of turning fans into customers.

Community leadership and participation (both online and offline) are integral to a Social Media Manager’s success. An essential component is communicating the company’s brand in a positive, authentic way what will attract today’s modern, hyper-connected buyers.

The Customer Outreach and Media Member is instrumental in managing the company’s content-related assets. Google’s #1 search ranking factor is relevant content (content that serves the searchers needs the best). It’s clear then that managing content should be part of the Customer Outreach and Media Member's Job Description.

Content management duties include:

  • Administrate the creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content.
  • Identify and improve organizational development aspects that would improve content (ie: employee training, recognition and rewards for participation in the company’s marketing and online review building).
  • Create a regular publishing schedule.
  • Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns.
  • Promote content through social advertising.

This position is starting as a part time hourly position.  

The Customer Outreach and Media Member should always be learning, as it’s a crucial component to their success. Social and digital marketing “Best Practices” shift constantly, so a budget should be allocated for training and/or attendance at applicable industry-specific conferences.

Responsibilities of the Customer Outreach and Media MEMBEr

The first responsibility of a Customer Outreach and Media Member is to develop and implement a social media marketing plan. The marketing plan will include the following components and will be reviewed monthly with farmers and staff. 

Essential Duties of the Customer Outreach and Media Member

  • Manage social media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including:
    • Develop relevant content topics to reach the company’s target customers.
    • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video and written).
    • Monitor, listen and respond to users in a “Social” way while cultivating leads and sales.
    • Conduct online advocacy and open a stream for cross-promotions.
    • Develop and expand community and/or influencer outreach efforts.
    • Oversee design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, Blog, etc.).
    • Design, create and manage promotions and Social ad campaigns.
    • Manage efforts in building online reviews and reputation. Monitor online reviews and respond to each review.
    • Analyze key metrics and tweak strategy as needed.
    • Compile reports for management showing results (ROI).
    • Create and compile emails targeted to current membership and past membership
  • Become an advocate for the company in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate ability to map out a comprehensive marketing plan. Drive strategies that are proven by testing and metrics.
  • Develop organizational elements in order to implement a proactive process for capturing happy, loyal customer online reviews.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy.
  • Implement ongoing education to remain highly effective.
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the company. Report notable threats to appropriate management.
  • Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising social media, content marketing, SEO and social advertising campaigns.
  • Monitor effective benchmarks (Best Practices) for measuring the impact of social media campaigns. Analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possesses knowledge and experience in the tenets of traditional marketing. Marketing degree is welcomed but not required with relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media. (Give links to profiles as examples).
  • Proficient in content marketing theory and application.
  • Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing.
  • Exhibits the ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to demonstrate why their ideas are analytically sound.
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills.
  • Enjoys a working knowledge of the blogging ecosystem relevant to the company’s field.
  • Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format.
  • Exceeds at building and maintaining sales relationships, online and off.
  • Practices superior time management.

OBERCREEK BREWING COMPANY & OBERCREEK CIDER COMPANY: 

Hop and Cider Orchard Manager

Job: Responsible for care and expansion of a 1/3 acre organic hop yard and a 1 acre organic apple orchard. Interface with brewers and cider makers at the farm. Looking for full-time employee but will consider part-time/seasonal candidates.

Location:  Wappinger Falls New York (65 miles north of NYC) in the Hudson Valley. Farm is less than a mile from New Hamburg Metro-North Station

Job Description:

Obercreek Brewing Company and Obercreek Cider Company is seeking and individual to care and maintain the orchard and hop yard and to create an expansion plan in conjunction with management of the two entities.

Background: Obercreek Farm is an organic farm, producing mainly vegetables for both commercial and CSA markets. In 2013, Obercreek farm planted 1/3 acre of several hop varietals to determine whether organic production was viable in our region. In 2016, Obercreek Brewing Company was established and renovations occurred to create a brew house on the farm. In 2016 Obercreek Cider Company was established and a 4.5 acre field was prepared for an organic orchard of bitter sweet and bitter sharp varietals. The first trees will be planted in spring of 2017.

Experience:

Seeking individual with some experience at a commercial orchard. Some experience with orchard and hop yard care and cultivation desired. Knowledge of brewing and fermentation techniques desired.  General farm experience, preferably with organic methods or Integrated Pest Management desired..

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Housing: 1 bedroom apartment available on farm.
