Obercreek Farm is excited to announce an opening for a full time field crew member focused on general farm landscape maintenance (weedwacking, mowing), work in our hop yard, and help with harvest and other farm production work on an as-needed basis. We are seeking crew members with a good work ethic, a sense of humor and an interest in local agriculture. Some experience is preferred but we are more than willing to train the right person. 

Full Time/Full Season Crew Member Job Description & Expectations

Daily hours for the majority of the season are 7am to 5pm Mon-Fri with an hour for lunch, allowing for flexibility due to weather and time of year.  Work will begin mid-March with more part-time hours, increasing to full time by May, and last through November 30th with potential for part-time winter work.  

The majority of this position will focus on the following areas of the farm: 

Hops: Attend to ⅓ acre hop yard under the direction of the farm managers. Responsibilities include early season setup and weed control, irrigation and pest management. 

Maintenance: general care and upkeep of farm grounds. This position is responsible for pasture and hay field mowing, tree line brush clearing, and maintenance of deer fence surrounding vegetable fields. The majority of these projects are seasonal but they may take several days to complete. Some responsibilities, such as the home farm grounds upkeep, will be more frequent. For the right candidate, there may be work involving a skid steer in various locations on the farm property.  

In addition, this position will help with harvest, packing, and other farm work as needed/available. 

NECESSARY SKILLS

  • Strong work ethic and endurance for hard physical work, willing to work hard above and beyond the job requirements when necessary

  • Physically fit- capable of lifting 40-50 lbs. repeatedly, using a weedwhacker for hours at a time, etc

  • Ability to work physically all day in all sorts of weather doing repetitive tasks

  • Work well in a team environment and be able to communicate and accept feedback, as well as a strong ability to work independently after direction from managers; this position often works alone on mowing and other projects

Hourly pay begins at $17/hour but is based on experience and may increase based on performance and length of stay.
